There is a famous line in many James Bond movies where Agent 007 asks for his martini to be “shaken, not stirred”. While I have only seen one full James Bond movie in my life, its a line that comes to mind every time I order a Martini.
For me, there are very few martinis that I am fond of, mostly because they are usually straight alcohol and well that much straight alcohol is probably not that great for the organs. I shared in my cruising post the Raspberry Lemonade Martini I discovered onboard Celebrity Cruises at the Martini Crush Bar. Apart from that martini, my new love is the Expresso Martini, probably because it incorporates coffee — and coffee for me represents life. Those who know me well know not to approach until I have consumed my second cup of java.
I think it was our first trip to California when I discovered the Expresso Martini. And I was hooked immediately and on the hunt for the best martini out there. My son is currently making his living as a bartender and shared his version of the Expresso Martini which is pretty good. I would rate it an 8.5 out of 10. I am not going to lie though, on our holidays last fall, I found one that I would rate a 9.5 out of 10 (and only a 9.5 because I don’t usually rate anything a 10 – there is ALWAYS room for improvement says the perfectionist in me) at the Surf Club Oceanside https://www.surfcluboceanside.com/. Their version of the cocktail is made of Wheatley Vodka, Caffe Borghetti, and cold brew.
Here is the recipe he shared like I said, it’s worth the shakes if you enjoy some liquor with your coffee. If you need a friend to share one with, give me a call. I am always up to sip a few of these frothy delights!
