Overnight Holiday Waffles

Course: Breakfast

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 c warm water
  • 1 pkg active dry yeast
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 2 c whole milk, lukewarm
  • 1/4 lb unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 Tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 1/4 tsp kosher salt
  • 2 c all purpose flour
  • 2 extra large eggs
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda

Method
 

  1. The night before, combine water, yeast and sugar in very large bowl. Allow to sit about 5 minutes until the yeast has dissolved and starts to foam.
  2. Stir in the milk, melted butter, honey, vanilla and salt.
  3. Add the flour and whisk until batter is smooth.
  4. Cover the bowl with pastic wrap and allow it to sit overnight at a cool room temperature.
  5. The next morning, beat the eggs together with the baking soda and whisk into the overnight batter until combined.
  6. Pour the batter on a heated and sesoned (either with melted butter or cooking spray) waffle iron. Cook per waffle instrcutons until the waffles are golden brown.
  7. Top with powederd sugar and/or serve with syrup, whipped cream and fruit as desired.
