Cozy Weekends in the Kitchen: A Taste of September

Cozy Weekends in the Kitchen: A Taste of September

Fall is here, and that can mean lots of things for different people.  For some, it’s all about the “pumpkin”.  For me, it’s cooler mornings and evenings, a shade darker hair colour and, of course, a shift in how I cook.  That doesn’t mean no more BBQ-ing.  In fact, last weekend I scored some back ribs on sale that I will BBQ up on just the right fall weekend.  But when fall arrives, I pull out the big soup pot and the slow cooker, and I start hunting for new recipes for both.

The other thing with the onset of fall:  I am really hoping to have more time to devote to “this” (this blog and writing).   Summer was busy – the weather was too nice to sit inside at a computer.  I am hoping that with the change of the season and now that I am finally staring down at retirement, I will do better at this.

This September, I’m trying something new.  I’m kicking off a little weekend series — simple, cozy dishes that fit the season. Think classic comfort, slow-cooked flavour, and a touch of warmth for those crisp evenings. Each weekend, I’ll share what’s simmering in my kitchen — from marinara sauce and chicken parmesan to Asian pulled pork and homemade chicken soup.

Fall cooking is all about slowing down, savouring, and letting the house fill with good smells again. So grab your favourite mug, pull on a sweater, and join me for a few weekends of delicious comfort.

Here is what’s coming…

  • Asian Pulled Pork
  • Chicken Soup, good for the soul (and the occasional cold)
  • Chicken Parmesan with an easy Marinara Sauce
  •  Mac and Cheese

I can’t wait for you to join me this fall!
