Maria, Maria: from Westside Story to Sangria

Fall is upon us, but it’s still gorgeous here on the West Coast. The days are still pleasant, with the evenings cooler and quite comfortable. Its been another year with Mother Nature not being happy with us with natural disasters everywhere around us.

One of my favorite drinks to enjoy is Sangria (the red version). I enjoy the freshness of this classic over ice in the summer when it’s warm out, garnished with citrus and seasonal fruit, yet I am still drawn to it in the fall and winter. I think its the warming “burn” I feel from the brandy.  This is honestly so easy to make, and is a crowd pleaser for sure.  I have on occasion doubled and even tripled the recipe to make extra large batches for friends coming to the  famous Ivan BBQ.

And your probably asking what on earth is with the title of this post?  Well, quite simply every time I hear the song Maria, Maria by Carlos Santana, I want a make a batch of Sangria and sit back and enjoy the music and drink this cocktail!

Health warning:  if you plan on over indulging this this cocktail, have the Advil and water handy on the night stand.

Until we meet again friends.  Enjoy!
